Sand Stone Sphere, 4.8 inches in diameter.
Interesting and unusual. I had never given a thought to making a Sand Stone sphere. This was part of a collection of preforms I purchased from a dealer.
So the story as it was told to me..... The original owner and sphere maker was a pilot in WWII. After having been shot down behind enemy lines, as he was about to cross an open space, he saw a pretty rock. As he was bending down to pick it up, a German patrol drove by looking for him. Had he not seen the rock and stopped to pick it up, he would have been captured. He decided he need to be a rock hound then and there.
Great story. Not sure if their is a lick of truth to it. I like it any way.
